The Hudson Players Club will raise the curtain next week on a timeless classic that’s been told through books, movies and stage versions since 1925. The long-running, volunteer community theatre group will present The Great Gatsby from Nov. 3-13, at the Hudson Village Theatre, 28 Wharf Rd. Director Donna Byrne said she chose F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, which was adapted for the stage by Simon Levy, because it’s one of her favourites. “Although the novel was published in 1925, the characters and their quest for happiness are still relevant today,” she said, adding, “the insatiable hunger for power, love and survival still dominates.” To make the often opulent drama more manageable, Byrne broke it down into thirty-two scenes told from the perspective of narrator Nick Carraway. The story revolves around Jay Gatsby and his obsession with the elusive, married, Daisy Buchanan. Carraway, a newcomer, is drawn into their world of greed and danger. A cast of 22 actors will be featured in the play. Tickets, $23, are available online or via the box office. For information call 438 923-6828.
