Fundraiser helping vital regional asset

At least one Montreal doctor who started his own Rolling Stones tribute band will head up a concert taking place in Saint Lazare on Sept. 26 that will aid the The Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence Foundation (VSPCRF).

The Stone Doctors band was created in 2001 by two Montreal orthopaedic surgeons with a love of the music of legendary band The Rolling Stones. The original tribute band also included other singers and a manager with a doctorate. The well educated group of musicians, which performs free of change for charity events in Canada and the U. S., will headline the 2015 Chords 4 Care Benefit Concert, taking place on Sept. 26 at Saint Lazare’s Bar Chez Maurice. The show will be hosted by radio personality Ted Bird, from Vaudreuil-Soulanges radio station Jewel 106.7.

 Idea is born

Event organizer and palliative home volunteer Steven Lambert said participants will be treated to a lively evening of music and fun next weekend. Lambert first got the idea to host such a concert after attending a Stone Doctors performance a few years ago. He immediately knew a band comprised of doctors and other professionals was the perfect fit for the home that must raise the bulk of its operating money in order to keep giving free end-of-life care. « We are very proud to have such a band in the area. These musicians perform across North America and it is an honor to work with them,” Lambert said in an earlier interview. The Stone Doctors is now comprised of orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ian Dickey, a founding member and group ambassador, lawyers Shaina Bronfen and John Murray, Natasha Caron a municipal employee, engineer Dan Gideon, Randy Shute who is a furniture dealer by day, Garry Ciambella, an owner and software company partner, and Mark Higden, a photographer.

 The home

Proceeds from the concert will aid the VSPCR, which offers specialized palliative care to children, teens, and adults, as well as their families, in a terminal phase of illness. The home, which opened in Hudson in September of 2010, is staffed by a team of healthcare workers, doctors, and some 240 volunteers. The specialized end-of-life-care is offered 24-hours a day, seven days a week, free of charge. The Stone Doctors show will get underway at 8 p.m. on Sept. 26, at Bar Chez Maurice, located at 1897 ch. Ste-Angélique in Saint Lazare. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.Tickets, $30 each, can be purchased on the Bar Chez Maurice website at: www.barchezmaurice.qc.ca, or by calling 450 455-3544.
