Relay for Life underway Friday

When participants in the 2016 Relay for Life begin their all night journey Friday, they will be doing it to at least one song that was recorded by Ruth Damas, a professional singer from L’Île-Perrot. Damas recorded the song “Closer to the Angles,” which is available for purchase online with proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. She will additionally perform the song on June 3 during the Relay for Life event, running from 7 p.m. June 3 to 7 a.m. June 4 at Parc nature les Forestiers de Saint-Lazare. Damas said her goal is to get as many donations as possible before the Friday night kickoff of the annual walk. “If people give generously together we can help find a cure,” she noted, adding she hopes anyone who buys the moving ballad will remember someone dear to them when they play it. “Closer to the Angels” was written and produced by March Larch. It honors the life of Catella (Cathy) Zirpollo, who fought a losing battle with cancer with courage and strength, according to Damas.
