Hudson author Leah Lindeman will launch her first novel Saturday at St. James Church in Hudson. (Phototheque)

A budding Hudson author will launch her first book Saturday at St. James Church. And Leah Lindeman, 23, is not aiming small. The Montreal native and mother of three says she is already hard at work on her second novel from a planned series of 13 historical Canadian books . Lindeman credits a unique childhood that included being homeschooled and a desire to become a cardiac surgeon for her work ethic and drive. A sudden inspiration to write poetry led her to take a correspondence course with the Writers Institute for Children’s Litereature in Connecticut. That resulted in the writing of the first few chapters of her historical novel « Redeemed From the Ashes, » the story of a misguided young woman, Evelyne, whose maimed husband is missing after the 1917 Halifax Explosion. After several weeks of searching, Evelyn is encouraged by her mother to leave her husband for dead and to move on. At first she refuses, but when Gerald MacCrae, a doctor, befriends her, Evelyn’s resolve weakens. But Gerald harbours a secret that threatens to rip apart any chance at happiness. Can Evelyne find happiness again? Lindeman will launch her book from 7:30 p.m.- 9 p.m. on June 4, at St.James Church Hall, 642 Main Road in Hudson.
