Two environmental events and an annual duck race will take place Saturday in Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue. The town will host its 12th Ecology Day on Sept. 17, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.. The environmental fair is aimed at raising awareness of the local ecology and the need to protect the environment through healthy living. Information booths along Ste. Anne Rd. will offer a host of information, while participants can attend workshops and conferences including one by Montreal Insectarium founder Georges Brossard (11:30 a.m.) on the main stage at Cunningham’s Pub, 88 Rue Ste-Anne. Brossard will also be on hand for the release of several Monarch butterflies at 12 :30 p.m. at Parc Lalonde as part of the Insectarium’s Monarch Without Borders Program. And in a bid to demystify composting, the town will distribute composting bags to residents. A limited number of bags will be given to visitors. Meanwhile, Naturally Sainte-Annes will be held the same day. The event gives participants the chance to discover the town’s many attractions. Participants can park free at John Abbott College and board shuttle buses to such places as: The Ecomuseum Zoo, the Morgan Arboretum, the Montreal Astronomical Society – Bellevue Observatory, the Montreal Aviation Museum, the Macdonald Campus Farm, Parks Canada and the Sainte-Anne Farmer’s Market. Admission to the sites will be free or reduced. Planned activities will include musical performances, face painting, inflatables, live entertainment, mobile performers, and more. Finally, the 20th annual National Bank Duck Race will take place at 6 p.m. at the Parks Canada Lock in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. Proceeds will benefit the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation. A free concert by Quebec band Offenbach will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Rue Ste-Anne.
