Teens nabbed on drug charges
A pair of teenagers were arrested this week in Pincourt on drug related charges. On Sept. 13 police stopped the teens, both aged 15, after the duo were spotted looking into cars parked at the corner of 5th Ave. and Blvd. de l’île. Officers confiscated drugs allegedly used for trafficking including hashish, as well as a small amount of LSD. The youths were released on a promise to appear.
Tobacco smuggling
More than a dozen police officers from the Sûreté du Québec’s smuggling division and an RCMP Valleyfield detachment intercepted an alleged tobacco smuggling operation on Sept. 14 in St -Étienne-de-Beauharnois. Investigators seized more than 90 bags of bulk tobacco (more than 1450 kg) after searching a car that was stopped near a bike path leading to the Madeleine Parent Bridge on Highway 30. The vehicle was also seized. The driver, a 21 year-old Saint-Télesphore man, was arrested. A passenger fled of foot and was not located. The suspect could face charges under the 2001 Act Respecting the Tobacco Excise Tax. He appeared in a Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse.
