Two Vaudreuil-Dorion organizations were awarded a total $425,000 in federal funding last week after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a stop in the region. The investment that aims to promote healthy active lifestyles, was announced by Liberal MP Peter Schiefke.
Schiefke’s office said both organizations worked with the city of Vaudreuil-Dorion to apply for the federal investments. “Government funding is not awarded without a thorough process,” Jennifer Frezza, Schiefke’s Director of Communications, noted. The money, which will come from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, will go to Animation Jeunesse Vaudreuil and Club de Triathlon Tri-O-Lacs. Both projects meet the goal of promoting healthy, active lifestyles in the region. An investment of $275 000 will be used to create a new bidirectional bike path between Dumberry and Dollard roads in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The path will connect existing Vaudreuil-Dorion paths that are used by cyclists and joggers. The funding represents half of the total project cost. “The extension of the existing bike path on Dumberry will allow members of our community, both young and old, to (remain active) in a safe and responsible way,” Schiefke said. The remainder of the funds, $150 000, will be used to build a new water playground at Parc de la Paix in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The new facility will be accessible to families, including those with children with disabilities. “This project aims to bring together people of all ages as well as people with reduced mobility, providing them with the opportunity to enjoy water play that is now always accessible to all. It will also allow us to accommodate more children in our day camps, therefore fulfilling a critical need,” Vaudreuil-Dorion mayor Guy Pilon said. The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) is part of Canada 150 Celebrates, the celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The 2016 budget allocated an additional $150 million over two years to Canada’s Regional Development Agencies to deliver further community funding across the country.
